Theme:
“Endowing Our Future”
And
“Preparing for Global Citizenship”

We believe that every child has the inherent right to an education that will enhance the development
of maximum capability, regardless of sex, ethnic origin, economic, social or religious background.
We believe that every child has a right to the tools that facilitate the
achievement of personal goals and the fulfillment of obligations to society.
We believe that every individual has certain basic human needs beyond educational needs, which
must be addressed, by the school.
We believe that the school must provide an environment
in which all students are afforded an equal opportunity to obtain competencies that will help them survive as individuals
and as members of society.
Here at NHBS we believe in the four “M’s” – a
MODEL, a MISSION, a MAGNET, and a MOVEMENT.
|
As a MODEL, the school will continue to serve as an
example to the nation and to the world that African-American Christians can take responsibility for the education of our own
children as we provide them with the Christian values, academic knowledge, technical skills, and African-American cultures
that they need to function effectively, confidently, and productively in the world of tomorrow.
As a MISSION, the school will reach out to all segments of our community,
with a particular concern for recruiting “the least of these,” our brothers and sisters who are socially deprived,
politically disenfranchised, and economically disadvantaged.
As a MAGNET,
the school will attract students not only from the Washington, D.C. area, but also throughout the nation and indeed the world,
as we seek to create an international educational environment in which brothers from throughout the African Diaspora may be
brought together to learn from and with each other.
As a MOVEMENT,
the school will become the nucleus of a national, and perhaps international, Nannie Helen Burroughs School System that will
incorporate nursery schools, daycare centers, elementary and secondary schools, and other educational programs currently provided
and/or planned by our churches. By sharing a common mission, common curriculum, and common resources, such
a movement could revolutionize our ability to take responsibility for the education of our own children and, thereby our ability
as a people, to take control of our own destiny.
