Code of Conduct

Preamble to Code of Conduct

The Seven Pillars of Character are:

·         Trustworthiness: Do the right thing even when adults are not present

·         Respect: yourself and the right of others

·         It is your Responsibility to bring all required materials to class and complete assignments on time

·         In Fairness to others, avoid gossip and spreading rumors

·         Be a Caring person.  Treat others, as you would want to be treated.

·         Practice good Citizenship.  Keep hallways, bathrooms, and lunchroom neat and clean.

·         Show Courtesy to others by being friendly, kind, and cheerful.

Each student will be responsible for providing a positive and healthy environment for others by maintaining order, self-discipline, and having consideration for the rights and property of others.  Each student will bear the responsibility for his or her own conduct.

Each student will be responsible for neatness and cleanliness of personal attire and hygiene.

Each student will respect other students, teachers, administrators, other school personnel, and visitors as human beings and fellow citizens of the school community.

Each student will respect the personal property of others and refrain from causing intentional damage or unnecessary wear and tear to books, facilities, school materials, school buildings and furnishings, and the personal property of others.

Each student will refrain from fighting, creating disturbances and denying others the use of school facilities.  A student will not use threats or intimidation against any other person.

Each student will respect the health and safety of others.

Each student will respect the educational process and learning environment of others by refraining from intentional or habitual tardiness, unexcused absences, or any activities, which diminish the rights of others to acquire a quality Christian education.

Each student will strive to model the example of Jesus Christ.

GRADES NURSERY THROUGH SIXTH GRADE

Teachers will keep a log of student misconduct.

Classroom infractions include:

  • Disrespect to others
  • Classroom disruption—yelling out, not keeping hands, feet, objects to one’s self
  • Disobeying the directive of the teacher

Consequences for classroom misconduct are as follows:

  • 1st time student is given a verbal warning
  • 2nd time student’s behavior is documented in teacher log
  • 3rd time parent is called by the teacher

If there is no change in behavior after the teacher conference with the parent, an administrative conference will be held with the child, parent, teacher, and principal.

The next occurrence of misconduct will result in suspension.

Suspension will be recorded in the student’s permanent record.

LEVEL TWO MISCONDUCT

  • Fighting
  • Vandalism and/or destruction of school property
  • Inciting others to violence or disruption
  • Physical attack and/or threat
  • Theft
  • Possession of fireworks or explosives
  • Use of Profanity/Disrespect towards other students and adults
  • Extortion
  • Insubordination – Failure to respond promptly and courteously or carry out a request by authorized school personnel
  • Cheating
  • Possessions of cell phones or other electronic devices

Behavior in the area of Level II Misconduct will result in suspension or permanent removal from the Nannie Helen Burroughs School.

Cell Phones and Electronic Devices

Cell phones, CD headsets, hand-held game sets are prohibited during school and after care hours.  The principal will confiscate cell phones and electronic devices used during school hours.

 All confiscated materials must be retrieved from the principal by a parent or guardian.
